Rolls-Royce Power Systems and Saudi Engines Manufacturing Company (MAKEEN) signed an individual licence agreement for local production and assembly of mtu Series 2000 marine engines in Saudi Arabia. The company said on 1 October that it was the first licence for local production of high-speed engines in the Kingdom.

The agreement follows a framework licence signed by the companies in November 2023. They will now work to establish initial production capabilities. The announcement said the marine initiative could later be followed by rail applications; it did not state output capacity or a production start date.
