Power Integrations and Ideal Power announced a collaboration on October 12 to develop a protection system for AI data centers moving toward 800 V direct-current architectures. The design combines Power Integrations’ 1700 V InnoMux-2 power-conversion IC with Ideal Power’s bidirectional B-TRAN semiconductor switch.

According to the companies, the IC converts power from the 800 V bus for isolated gate-drive, control and sensing electronics, while the B-TRAN switch protects the path to the computing load. They said they had demonstrated a working prototype and were preparing a reference design. The announcement reported neither commercial sales nor an independent efficiency test.
