Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved special farms for livestock exports and duty-free imports of high-yield breeds for those farms at a livestock-reform meeting on 5 October. The meeting also approved restructuring the sector on corporate lines with private-sector expertise.

Sharif called for a modern tagging system to ensure animals raised at the farms are exported. He directed officials to submit a targeted action plan to eliminate foot-and-mouth disease within two weeks and to ensure international certification and third-party validation of slaughterhouses. The report gives no farm capacity or new export target figure.
