Orca Energy Group said its subsidiary PanAfrican Energy Tanzania (PAET) rejected on October 9 the proposed terms to extend the Songo Songo natural gas licence. The company said PAET considered the proposed commercial and fiscal terms uneconomic and unacceptable after Tanzania’s energy minister issued an extension notice on October 1.

PAET also said it was willing to keep gas flowing under the existing licence and production-sharing framework during the 60-day statutory period. It intends to cease operating the facilities by November 29, or earlier if the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation and Songas confirm they are operationally ready. This is the company’s stated intention and transition plan.
