Nigeria’s Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) used a two-day occupational-safety programme for mine workers in Jos, Plateau State, to call for more local mineral processing and value addition. State coordinator Salifatu Rayyaluna Guruza argued in a presentation for processing minerals in Nigeria rather than exporting them in crude form.
Guruza said an emerging RMRDC collaboration with the Nigerian Metallurgical Development Centre (NMDC) aims to develop ferromanganese and ferrosilicon from locally available manganese and silicon ores. The report says laboratory-scale production and testing are targeted by December 2026; pilot and industrial production are later objectives. It does not report commercial production or a completed facility.
