The federal government approved a plan for a new East–West electricity grid, according to a statement dated October 15. Power Minister Joseph Tegbe said at a Lagos conference that the proposed transmission infrastructure would prioritise the Lagos–Abuja industrial corridor.

The ministry said engineers were completing a technical audit to identify points of failure in the existing system. The source gave no budget, construction start date or commissioning timetable for the line. Approval of a plan does not mean the grid is built or guarantee that sudden outages will end.
