Nigeria’s National Cocoa Management Committee (NCMC) issued the 12th edition of its cocoa market digest on 16 October, its first since late June. The Secretariat says the bulletin reviews developments across the preceding 16 weeks, with added attention to the latest fortnight. It reports a sharp reversal in international cocoa prices: the New York December contract settled at US$5,665 per metric tonne on 9 October after a late-August close of US$6,771, while the report calculates a 20.7% September decline.
The digest also relays the Cocoa Association of Nigeria’s projection that output in the 2026/27 season could be about 305,000 tonnes, around 11% below the association’s prior-season comparison; this is an industry forecast, not an official production count. NCMC says Nigeria’s traceability pilot covers Cross River, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo and Osun, and urges exporters to map supply plots ahead of the EU deforestation rules’ scheduled application to large and medium operators on 30 December 2026.
