Stats NZ’s indicator published on 2 October says atmospheric carbon dioxide at the Baring Head monitoring site near Wellington reached 423.1 parts per million in December 2025. That was 5.5% above December 2016.

Baring Head is a monitoring station measuring carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. The reported result describes the reading at that location; it should not be treated as a spatial average for all of New Zealand.
