Africa CDC, the African Union’s public health agency, reported on October 17 that Kenya’s Health Ministry had confirmed four additional Ebola cases caused by Bundibugyo virus. The total reported in Kenya rose to seven, including one death. All four new cases were identified among people quarantined after exposure to the first case: three healthcare workers and one family member.
The new patients were receiving supportive care at a designated treatment facility, Africa CDC said. Kenyan authorities had identified 130 contacts; 128 (98.5%) had been traced and placed in quarantine, while efforts continued to locate the remaining two. The ministry reported no evidence of community transmission at that stage.
