KBR announced on 29 September 2026 that SABIC Agri-Nutrients (SABIC AN) has selected its Purifier ammonia technology for a new grassroots ammonia plant in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Under the terms of the contract, KBR will provide technology licensing, basic engineering design, proprietary equipment and catalyst supply for a single-train plant of 3,500 metric tons per day.
KBR said it will work alongside EPC contractor Samsung E&A to deliver the project. The facility will produce 1.2 million metric tons of ammonia annually, and the project is expected to increase SABIC AN’s urea production capacity from 4.8 million to 7.4 million metric tons per year. KBR said its Purifier configuration will enable lower carbon intensity per ton of ammonia than conventional ammonia process designs.
KBR described the award as one of the largest ammonia capacity plants licensed in Saudi Arabia and its largest ammonia license by capacity in the Middle East and Africa. The release does not disclose a contract value or a schedule, and KBR’s scope is technology, basic design and equipment supply rather than the EPC contract itself.

Plant and capacity figures
Plant and capacity figures stated in KBR’s press release of 29 September 2026.
- Ammonia plant capacity (single train), per day
- 3,500 metric tons per day
- 2026-09-29 · Target
- Ammonia output per year
- 1.2 million tonnes
- 2026-09-29 · Target
- SABIC AN urea capacity per year, before the project
- 4.8 million tonnes
- 2026-09-29 · Observed
- SABIC AN urea capacity per year, expected after the project
- 7.4 million tonnes

Methodology
Capacities are planned design figures from KBR’s release, not output achieved. The release gives no contract value, so none is shown. The urea figures refer to SABIC AN’s urea production capacity as a whole, not to KBR’s scope.
