According to Petra’s account citing the Royal Hashemite Court, the project aims to improve mining-freight efficiency and reduce shipping costs. The Shidiya line is to connect with the Maan Land Port project.

The UAE–Jordan Railway Company is responsible for construction and implementation. Petra said the 360-kilometre network plan builds on strategic agreements signed in April; the railway is not yet operational.
