Japan’s National Tourism Organization estimated on 21 October that 3,103,700 international visitors arrived in September 2026, down 5.0% from a year earlier. Seven markets, including South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, India, Mexico, Russia and the Middle East, nevertheless recorded their highest September totals.

The organization cited visitors connected with the Aichi Asian Games, while higher airfares linked to Middle East tensions, reduced flights and typhoon cancellations weighed on arrivals from many markets. Cumulative arrivals through September again topped 30 million. These are estimates of inbound visitors, not all travellers or air passengers.
