Japan sets monitoring terms for proposed Murakami–Tainai offshore wind farm
Japan's environment ministry submitted its opinion on 2 October on a preliminary environmental assessment for a wind project off Murakami and Tainai. The proposal comprises 46 turbines in the 15 MW class and total capacity of 690–736 MW.

The ministry asks the developer to specify post-construction monitoring, including underwater-noise propagation during operation and rapid detection of possible migratory-bird collisions. If serious effects are identified, additional conservation measures should be considered with expert advice.
The proposed site off Niigata Prefecture covers about 9,242 hectares. The opinion is not an operating approval: the developer must still prepare the final environmental assessment document taking national and local opinions into account.
