Iraq's government launched its updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) on October 7 in coordination with the Ministry of Environment and the United Nations Development Programme. A UN statement published on October 9 said the document links climate action with economic diversification, energy and water security, resilience and sustainable development.

Iraq had submitted the NDC to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in November 2025. The document sets unconditional emissions-reduction targets of up to 3% below business-as-usual by 2030 and up to 5% by 2035. It adds a conditional reduction of up to 17% by 2035, dependent on international climate finance, technology transfer and capacity-building support, for a potential total reduction of up to 22%.
