India launched the fourth Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign in New Delhi on 28 October, with universities and colleges a particular focus. The health ministry’s nationwide campaign will run for 60 days and combines prevention, cessation support, enforcement and community participation.

Minister Prataprao Jadhav said the previous three editions had seen more than 580,000 educational institutions and over 73,000 villages declared tobacco-free. Those totals describe declarations from earlier campaigns rather than new results achieved by the fourth edition on launch day.

The new phase encourages educational institutions to follow tobacco-free campus guidelines, involve students and teachers, and support peer awareness. Its six strategies address public awareness, schools and other educational institutions, villages, enforcement, digital outreach, and dedicated university and college engagement. The launch reports a programme and its stated priorities; it does not provide a measured change in youth tobacco use attributable to this new phase.
