India’s commerce minister Piyush Goyal called on Telangana to make greater use of trade agreements at an Invest Telangana Global Summit curtain-raiser in New Delhi on 29 October. He proposed identifying the state’s 50 leading export products across goods and services and matching them with preferential-access markets.
He also suggested district-level trade-agreement help desks for smaller businesses, farmers and startups, alongside better traceability, packaging and branding for geographically identified products. These are recommendations to improve use of existing market opportunities, rather than a newly signed free-trade agreement.
The minister further called for pharmaceutical innovation, stronger precision engineering and closer links between industry, research institutions and government. The ministry’s account sets out proposals and ambitions; it does not quantify new export orders secured, investment committed or jobs already created by the event.
