The Coal Controller Organisation, under India’s Ministry of Coal, developed SUVIKALP, a mine repurposing tool intended to help stakeholders select suitable projects for post-mining land through a structured process. In a 21 October release, the organisation said the tool evaluates and ranks projects using technical, environmental, social and economic criteria.
For a selected project, the PRISM model provides implementation pathways, concepts, sample detailed project reports, tender documents and information about relevant agencies. SUVIKALP received the 2026 SKOCH Gold Award on 26 September in the “Digital Operational Efficiency – Data Driven Decision Making” category. The ministry also said it had conducted 12 thematic webinars on mine closure and sustainable repurposing.
