India’s Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) on 21 October to procure Improved Low Level Light Weight Radar systems, at an approximate cost of ₹770 crore. The signing took place in New Delhi in the presence of the Defence Secretary.

The ministry said the system can detect and track fighter-sized targets and mini or micro drones, and can prioritise aerial targets. It described the procurement as supporting the indigenisation of air-defence platforms and the domestic defence manufacturing sector.
