India released four publications on conservation, biosafety and access and benefit sharing at a COP17 side event in Yerevan on 28 October. Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav urged countries to turn global biodiversity commitments into implementation, sustained finance and measurable conservation outcomes.

The publications comprise 2026 guidelines for India’s other effective area-based conservation measures, its fifth national report under the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, a Convention on Biological Diversity reference handbook, and a book on India’s access and benefit-sharing experience.

The conservation guidelines address recognition of outcomes beyond conventional protected areas, subject to appropriate criteria and governance. The event was organised with the National Biodiversity Authority and UN Development Programme. Releasing guidance and reports is distinct from designating specific conservation sites or establishing that biodiversity targets have been achieved.
