The International Energy Agency published a new report on 10 September estimating 2025 emissions across the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply chain. The estimate covers production, processing, pipeline transport, liquefaction, shipping and regasification, and puts average intensity at 18.6 g CO₂-equivalent per megajoule of LNG delivered.

The figure is below the 19.4 g/MJ estimate in the IEA’s 2025 interim report. The updated assessment incorporates new production data, scientific studies and European Union shipping-emissions data. The agency also assessed methane abatement, efficiency improvements, electrification with low-emissions electricity, reduced flaring and carbon-capture options.
