GlobalFoundries said on October 14 that it had been selected to provide technology and operate two new wafer fabs at its Malta, New York site. The initiative could provide up to $21 billion, with Japanese investment and the company operating the facilities in the United States.

The first 300 mm fab is expected to receive about $10 billion and begin operating in 2029; a second would depend on roughly another $10 billion. The company estimates each fab could add about 900,000 wafers of annual capacity once fully operational. These are plans and estimates, not capacity already in service.
