Without seasonal adjustment, the employed headcount rose by 172,000, or 0.4%, as autumn activity increased. Compared with September 2025, employment was down 211,000, or 0.5%. The raw monthly increase, adjusted near-stability and annual decline describe different comparisons and should not be treated as contradictory estimates of the same change.

The separately measured, seasonally and irregularly adjusted unemployment rate was 4.1%, unchanged from August, with 1.77 million unemployed people. Employment accounts and unemployment survey results use different statistical sources. The unemployment measure follows International Labour Organization concepts and is distinct from Germany’s registered-unemployment statistics.
