Santiago’s Salón Teatro is scheduled to premiere the documentary O legado dunha mestra galega en Cuba. O poder de educar on October 27, with support from Galicia’s culture department. The film, directed by Violeta Ramos and Daniel Vázquez Vila, was promoted by the municipality of Mondoñedo.

The documentary focuses on Andrea López Chao, a teacher from Mondoñedo who moved to Cuba in the early 20th century to teach within the Galician Centre. The Xunta says she took part in Cuba’s first National Women’s Congress in 1923 and became a voice for women’s rights in the emigrant community. The announcement describes earlier local memorials, including a plaque installed in 2022 and a street named for her in 2025.
