In a rapid-information note published on 13 October, Agreste estimated France’s 2026 grain-maize harvest at 7.3 million tonnes. Harvest progress and its arable-land survey led it to lower the yield estimate to 63 quintals per hectare, which the service described as the lowest in more than 30 years.
The service said summer heatwaves and persistent drought affected maize, and that lower planted area and yield together drove the decline. The same note also reported lower estimates for barley, oilseeds, storage potatoes and sugar beet.
