EU records €21.8 billion goods trade deficit in the second quarter

The energy product deficit widened from the previous quarter.

The EU recorded a €21.8 billion deficit in goods trade with non-EU countries in the second quarter of 2026, Eurostat reported on 25 August. Imports were €701.8 billion and exports €680 billion.

The energy product deficit increased from €71.3 billion in the first quarter to €101.1 billion. This measures goods trade only, rather than the current account including services, investment income and transfers.
