EU countries submitted draft national plans under the Nature Restoration Regulation to the European Commission on 1 September. The plans set out how countries intend to meet restoration targets through 2030 and outline actions and targets planned for 2040 and 2050.

The Commission and European Environment Agency will assess the drafts over the coming months and provide observations to national authorities. Final plans are due within one year. The Commission has proposed including the plans in the 35% climate and environment spending benchmark for the 2028–2034 EU budget.
