EU food waste estimated at 129 kilograms per person in 2024

Eurostat’s September-updated report covers supply chain data for the 2024 reference year.

Approximately 58 million tonnes of food waste arose in the EU in 2024, according to the Eurostat report dated 29 September. Waste amounted to 129 kilograms per person, including 69 kilograms from households.

The measure includes edible and inedible food parts. Aggregates use estimates for missing country data and remain subject to revision; the figures do not describe waste generated in 2026.
