EU adds €130 million for border drone and counter-drone capabilities

The Commission’s additional allocation announced on 1 October takes available Home Affairs funding for border surveillance and counter-drone equipment above €500 million.

The European Commission increased support for member-state drone and counter-drone capabilities with an additional €130 million announced on 1 October 2026. The funding comes through the Border Management and Visa Instrument and is intended to strengthen border surveillance and responses to emerging drone threats.

The Commission said the allocation adds to €250 million announced in December 2025 and €169 million made available earlier in 2026, bringing total funding available through Home Affairs funds above €500 million. The funding can support surveillance drones and related equipment for Frontex and member states.
