The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s National Service has started producing Safari-branded maize flour at its mill in Kinshasa. The national news agency ACP reported on October 10, citing an agency communiqué, that the mill has processing capacity of 100 tonnes per day; commander Jean-Pierre Kasongo visited the facility on October 9.
The mill processes maize from National Service farming sites in Kaniama Kasese, Haut-Lomami province, and Lovo, Kongo Central province. The agency said the flour is intended in part for military canteens and described a production chain spanning cultivation, processing and distribution. Kasongo said a larger-capacity facility is planned for Kaniama Kasese; it was not described as operating yet.
