Qatar’s Ministry of Culture concluded its fifth seminar season at Lusail University on October 11 with a session on the recording and critical study of Prophetic Hadith. Historian Bashar Awad Marouf discussed how scholars assess transmitters, chains of transmission and textual variants, as well as the use of digitization and artificial intelligence in manuscript research.

Marouf said some sayings had been written during the Prophet Muhammad’s lifetime and that recording expanded in the first century AH, while compilation and classification developed in the second. He cautioned against treating the absence of a report from Sahih al-Bukhari or Sahih Muslim as sufficient proof that it is weak, and described authenticity assessment as a broader examination of sources and transmission routes. The ministry said the season ran from October 1 to 11; the October 11 seminar marked its conclusion.
