Colombia’s public-utilities watchdog outlined a four-part inspection and monitoring plan for the electricity sector as the El Niño climate phenomenon evolves. The agency said the work is intended to identify risks early and support preventive or corrective action.

The plan includes visits to hydroelectric and thermal plants and checks on compliance with energy-regulator measures; review of supervised companies’ finances; monitoring of local distribution assets; and verification that operators update disaster-risk plans. In non-interconnected zones, the watchdog will also gather information on regional fuel-supply logistics.
