Colombia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development published on October 2 a letter from Minister Indalecio Dangond to the board of Fedearroz. The letter says U.S. rice-import auctions generated about 292.867 billion Colombian pesos over the past 15 years, while collections from the parafiscal levy exceeded 259 billion pesos.
The minister said he had ordered a forensic-focused review of the funds’ execution, allocation and impact. The letter also describes producers as facing high costs, low productivity, insufficient infrastructure and growing climate and price-volatility risks. The amounts are claims in the minister’s letter; they are not presented here as independent audit findings or proof of misconduct.
