Chocó seismic swarm exceeds 1,568 recorded events

The Geological Survey said no new aftershocks were located in the preceding 24 hours, while four swarm events above magnitude 2 and below 4 were located on October 1.

Colombia’s Geological Survey reported an update on seismic sequences following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake of August 10. In Chocó, the aftershock count remained at 334 because no new aftershocks were located during the 24 hours before the October 1 bulletin.

The separate swarm near several municipalities had more than 1,568 located events, including 31 of magnitude 4.0 ML or higher. Four events between magnitude 2.0 and 4.0 ML were located on October 1. The agency describes a swarm as a sequence without one clearly dominant mainshock.
