The compressor combines independent variable-speed shafts with selectable single- or two-stage operation. Clivet says the second stage can be bypassed at low pressure ratios, while both stages run at different speeds at higher ratios. The company says power use can fall by up to 40% at the same cooling capacity and maximum inlet flow can rise by about 70% at low pressure ratios. Clivet also says the system is designed to reduce temperature and flow fluctuations when switching between free cooling and mechanical cooling, and to restore cooling more quickly after power interruptions. The percentages are the manufacturer’s own claims; the release does not provide an independent test protocol or field validation.
