A notice published on 18 October by the town of Montornès del Vallès, attributing the information to Catalonia’s Civil Protection service, said the Meteorological Service of Catalonia expected rain across the region on Monday, with heavy showers in eastern Catalonia, coastal and pre-coastal areas, Central Catalonia and the central and eastern Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees.

The forecast said showers could become locally torrential in parts of the coast and pre-coast from Monday midday into Tuesday morning, with accumulations of 60 litres per square metre in three hours. Storms and locally severe weather were also possible. Civil Protection advised people to avoid unnecessary travel, keep away from rivers and flood-prone areas, avoid crossing water-covered roads on foot or by vehicle, and not park in stream beds or flood-prone underground areas.
