Statistics Canada’s August energy transportation and storage data, released October 20, show pipeline inventories of crude oil and equivalents at 14.636 million cubic metres at the start of the month and 14.644 million at month-end. Inventories of hydrocarbon gas liquids (HGLs) and refined petroleum products rose from 1.461 million to 1.619 million cubic metres.

These figures are pipeline inventory stocks at two points in the month, not production or shipments; opening and closing values should not be added. Values are converted from cubic metres to thousand cubic metres by dividing by 1,000. The release makes August data available and does not provide an explanation for the month-to-month movements.
