Canadian lumber production fell 8.6% in July

Statistics Canada reported lower sawmill output and shipments, with unadjusted data subject to revision.

Canadian sawmills produced 3,546.4 thousand cubic metres of lumber in July 2026, down 8.6% from June and 6.7% from July 2025, Statistics Canada reported on October 5. Lumber shipments totalled 3,728.9 thousand cubic metres, a monthly decline of 10.3% and an annual decline of 7.8%.

The agency said the figures are not seasonally adjusted and may be revised. It also revised earlier observations from January 2025 through June 2026 in the related production and shipment tables, so comparisons use the release’s updated historical series.
