Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand announced on October 18 that she would welcome Dominican Republic Foreign Affairs Minister Víctor Bisonó to Ottawa on October 19. The Canadian government said it would be the first visit to Canada by a Dominican foreign minister in more than 20 years.

Global Affairs Canada said the ministers were expected to discuss expanded trade and investment, stronger supply chains, cooperation on critical minerals and responsible mining, and regional security issues including the ongoing crisis in Haiti. The department said diplomatic relations began in 1954 and that the Dominican Republic is the Caribbean’s leading destination for Canadian travellers.
