CNI indicators point to slower manufacturing activity in August
Revenue and hours worked fell, while factory capacity use also declined.

In the August indicators released on 7 October, CNI reported that seasonally adjusted real manufacturing revenue fell 3.5% from July. Hours worked in production declined 1%, and capacity use moved from 77.5% to 76.9%.
From January through August, real revenue was 0.2% lower and hours worked 0.8% lower than a year earlier. Employment was stable in August. The survey measures manufacturing activity, not the entire economy.
