Azerbaijan signs AIIB grants for a green-energy corridor and offshore wind

Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry said on October 9 that the government signed two grant agreements with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB): one for development of the Caspian Green Energy Corridor project and another for a concept study of coastal infrastructure to support large offshore wind plants. The ministry said the corridor is intended to connect Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The agreements concern project preparation and do not represent a completed transmission line, a construction decision or electricity exports. The grant amounts are USD 1 million for corridor project development and USD 100,000 for the coastal-infrastructure concept study.

The grants provide USD 1 million for development of the corridor project and USD 100,000 for the coastal-infrastructure concept study supporting large-scale offshore wind plants. They fund preparation work, not construction of wind farms.
