Australian job vacancies fall 0.9% in August

Private vacancies fell while public-sector vacancies rose.

The ABS quarterly survey estimated 325,000 vacancies in August 2026, down 0.9% from May. Private vacancies were 286,300; public vacancies 38,700.

The trend estimate was 326,300, down 1.2% year-on-year; it differs from the seasonally adjusted series. Vacancies are not ad counts.
