The African Development Bank Group and Equity Bank Kenya signed a US$60 million transaction-guarantee facility to expand trade-finance access for small and medium-sized enterprises and local companies. The signing ceremony took place in Nairobi on 1 October.

AfDB will provide confirming banks with guarantees of up to 100% against non-payment risk on eligible letters of credit and similar instruments issued by Equity Bank Kenya. By reducing banks’ exposure, the facility is intended to help Kenyan businesses finance eligible imports and participate more effectively in regional and international trade.
