The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) highlighted goals in its Agricultural Transformation Strategy on World Food Day, 16 October. Under its “Grow more with less” vision, the plan aims by 2040 to raise agriculture’s contribution to the emirate’s GDP from AED9.5 billion to AED34.6 billion and increase self-sufficiency in essential food commodities from 30% to 70%, WAM reported.

Other targets include a fifth-place global ranking in the food-security index, cutting irrigation use from 24,700 to 12,700 cubic metres per hectare, applying advanced agricultural technology on 70% of operating farms and enabling 75% of farms to access finance. These are strategy goals, not achieved results. Abu Dhabi’s targets are distinct from the UAE-wide 50% local-crop target discussed at a Sharjah forum the previous day.
