Volkswagen Group set out its approach to European industrial competitiveness at its “For Europe” event on October 11, ahead of the opening of the Paris Motor Show. The Wolfsburg-based group said it plans to reduce complexity across products, processes and structures, speed up decisions, and focus investment on technologies and businesses that create greater value for customers and the company.

The company aims to use common platforms and modules more widely across its brands and apply artificial intelligence in hardware and software development while preserving each brand’s design identity. Volkswagen said the four European-produced vehicles in its Electric Urban Car Family share more than 80% of components and technologies, and that the family had received almost 150,000 orders by the event. Production is in Martorell and Pamplona, Spain.
