Uzbekistan's presidential administration published a review of oil and gas sector projects on 5 October. It said five gas-condensate fields had been discovered this year and 80 wells drilled from January through September, with 40 more planned in the fourth quarter. The briefing also described exploration of deep formations in Ustyurt and drilling work with foreign partners.

The review covered projects to expand gas-transmission capacity through new trunk pipelines and compressor-station upgrades. Officials said the work, including modern electric motors at some stations, could save up to 125 million cubic metres of gas annually. At the Fergana refinery, following repairs to key units, diesel output rose 30 percent, bitumen 60 percent and jet fuel fivefold; utilization is expected to increase from 40 to 65 percent by year-end.
