The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced on 19 October that it would make $8 billion available to farmers through its Harvest Fuel Relief program this harvest season. Payments will be one-time and proportional, intended to cover part of modeled losses associated with temporary market disruptions and higher input costs.

USDA said the national loss average will use planted-acre reports from the Farm Service Agency, production-cost estimates from the Economic Research Service, and yield and price estimates from the World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates. Payment rates for Title I commodities are due in November; the method for other eligible commodities will be announced later. The release did not give an application opening date or commodity-specific rates.
