The U.S. Department of Energy said on October 13 that it intends to make up to $60 million available for alternative chemicals, fuels, fertilizers and feedstock technologies. The department expects to publish the funding notice, or NOFO, in November 2026; the announcement is not a grant award and does not name selected projects.

The proposed scope covers three areas: depots that convert biomass into intermediate feedstocks, integration of those intermediates into existing refineries, and a pilot for blending hydrogen with natural gas. Eligibility, application dates and final award decisions are to be set out in the forthcoming NOFO.
