Great Britain retail sales volumes rose 0.5% in August

Retail sales volumes in Great Britain increased 0.5% in August after falling by the same amount in July, the ONS said. Volumes were 2.4% above August 2025.

The three months to August were up 0.9% from the three months to May. Non-food store volumes rose 0.6% on the month, while fuel sales volumes fell as prices rose sharply.

The seasonally adjusted series covers Great Britain and measures the quantity of goods bought, rather than sales values. This is a first estimate; ONS advises reading volatile monthly changes alongside the three-month results.

Seasonally adjusted data published by Istat on 2 October show Italian retail sales value rose 0.3% and volume 0.1% in August from July. Year on year, value increased 0.5% while volume fell 1.0%.
