HM Revenue and Customs reported £391.6 billion in tax, National Insurance contributions and other receipts between April and August 2026. The total was £24.9 billion higher than in the corresponding period a year earlier.

HMRC said year-on-year comparisons should be treated with caution because it has begun monthly alignment of Income Tax, National Insurance and VAT figures with accounting data. Receipts from April 2026 are provisional and may be revised during the annual alignment process in 2027.
