The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention has begun applying phased maximum levels for sodium, processed sugar and total fat in selected packaged foods. The decision covers qualifying products made domestically or imported and food businesses that handle them; goods made or imported for direct re-export are excluded unless traded inside the country.

For the first product group, businesses have up to nine months from the decision’s effective date to meet phase-one limits, then must continue reductions to meet final limits by 31 December 2030. The processed-cheese group has up to two years and three months for phase one. Existing stock may remain on sale for no more than one year or until expiry.
